How it Works

Many Shopify stores have different products whose inventory are linked to each other because they use the same underlying materials. Fusion Inventory helps merchants manage inventory in this situation using the concept of a "Bill of Materials".

Example Use Case #1: Apparel

Overview

Suppose you sell Apparel with printed designs. You have a product line of Grey Sweatshirts with printed designs. You have 20 sweatshirts in stock:

Product Name Inventory
Grey Sweatshirt - Solar 20
Grey Sweatshirt - Lunar 20

You need to sync the 2 products' inventories so that when you sell 1, both of them have their inventory quantities updated to 19. (You can sell a total of 20 and not 20 of both).

Fusion Inventory

With Fusion Inventory, you would create a material called a "Grey Sweatshirt" with an inventory quantity of 20. You would then create a Bill of Materials for the each product that defines which materials are used to make it (and how many of each material):

Material Quantity
Grey SweatShirt 1

After that, every time you sell a grey sweatshirt, regardless of what design it was, Fusion Inventory will do the following:

  1. Deduct the inventory of "Grey Sweatshirt" by 1.
  2. Update the inventory of both have the sweatshirt in their bill of materials.
  3. Sync the inventory update to Shopify.

Example Use Case #2: Selling Coffee by Weight

Overview

Imagine you sell Coffee by weight and you have 2.5kg of "Brazil SanCoffee - Espresso"

Product Name Inventory
Brazil SanCoffee - Espresso - 250g 10
Brazil SanCoffee - Espresso - 500g 5

You need to sync the 2 products' inventories such that if you were to sell 1x of the 500g variant, the quantity available for the 250g variant would be deducted by 2. Similarly the 500g variant should be updated when you make a sale on the 250g variant.

Fusion Inventory

With Fusion Inventory, you would create a material called a "Brazil SanCoffee - Espresso" with an inventory quantity of 2500 (measured in grams). You would then create a Bill of Materials for the each product that defines how many grams are used to make it:

250g variant:

Material Quantity
Brazil SanCoffee - Espresso 250

500g variant:

Material Quantity
Brazil SanCoffee - Espresso 500

After that Fusion Inventory will take care of properly syncing your inventory of coffee to Shopify every time you make a sale of any variant.
